Madrid 2016 Candidate City for the Olympic Games

Awaiting the decision by the International Olympic Committee (COI in Spanish), Madrid is working to become the city to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2016.
The Mayor to Madrid, Alberto Ruiz Gallardón, has travelled to Valencia in order to present the city as site for the olympic sailing games.

Together with the president of the Generalitat Valencia, Francisco Camps, Gallardón visited Valencia and after thanking for the unconditional valencian support to Madrid’s candidacy, he signed with Valencia’s mayoress, Rita Barberá, their alliance to achieve the success of Madrid’s candidacy as organizing city of the 31st Olympic Games 2016, in which Valencia will be the site of the olympic sailing games, if the International Olympic Committee (COI) votes for Madrid.

The Comunidad Valenciana is a safe bet and an international point of reference for important events such as the America’s Cup, the European Grand Prix of Formula 1 and the Volvo Ocean Race.

The appointment of Valencia as the site for the olympic sailing games if Madrid’s candidacy is chosen as the winner by the COI, will be very important for the Autonomous Region of Valencia and will mean the union with the Autonomous Region of Madrid, that with the arrival of the high-speed train AVE, will only be separated by a time distance of just over an hour.

This union will benefit all residents of the Autonomous Region of Valencia, as we will be able to move more comfortably to Spain’s capital city and will also benefit the residents of Madrid’s Autonomous Region, as they will have the opportunity of getting to know our coast and enjoy the Mediterranean Sea.
